Values

The curriculum of the International School of Tucson (IST) has as its premise that as we cannot know what tomorrow's world will be like, nor what tomorrow's world will require of its citizens, what our children know will matter less than what kinds of people they are.

Our curriculum is built upon a set of values, and all that happens within the School comes from these :

    • Honesty and Reliability
    • Tolerance and Respect
    • Motivation and Responsibility
    • Hard Work and Productivity
    • Life-long Learning and Balance

However Values cannot be taught; they can be modeled, incorporated within an activity or reinforced through a Code of Behavior. At IST, we strive to produce the conditions necessary for the inculcation of these values. When we take a Value such as "Respect" and break it down, we might arrive at "Neatness" which, when on further analysis, breaks down into :

    • Cleaning up after an activity
    • Putting things away
    • Putting things in their right places
    • Sorting things from bigger to smaller, or from older to newer

These sub-themes easily translate into learning activities, and in turn into Skills-based lessons.
