The curriculum of the International School of Tucson (IST) has as its premise that as we cannot know what tomorrow's world will be like, nor what tomorrow's world will require of its citizens, what our children know will matter less than what kinds of people they are. Secondly, that as what passes for knowledge today is changing so rapidly, what our children know will matter less than what they know how to do. El plan de estudios de la escuela internacional de Tucson (IST) como premisa de que no podemos saber como será el mundo de mañana, ni qué requerirá de sus ciudadanos. Lo que nuestros niños serán importará menos que de clases de personas son. IST's curriculum is comprised of two parts: the Curriculum Methodology and the Curriculum Contents. Our Curriculum Methodology (see below) draws on a prestigious international program, Our Curriculum Contents (see below) are drawn from the Arizona State Standards, the Argentine National Curriculum and the National Curriculum of England and Wales amongst other sources, and also has as a goal the development of an international-mindedness in our students. El plan de estudios de IST esta compuesto de dos partes: la metodológica y el contenido del plan de estudios. Curriculum Methodology Metodología Del Plan de estudios
The Curriculum Methodology is influenced by the belief that learners construct knowledge based on personal experience. The IST teacher starts from the point of the child's current understanding and by creating the conditions for learning to occur, devising the activities and providing the materials, s/he leads the learner into new areas of knowledge. This is done through a process of structured inquiry. La metodología del plan de estudios está influenciada por la creencia que los alumnos construyen conocimiento basado en experiencia personal. El profesor de IST comienza desde el punto de entendimiento del niño, creando las condiciones para que el proceso de aprendizaje pueda ocurrir, idear las actividades y proporcionar los materiales, los guía hacia nuevas áreas del conocimiento. Esto se hace mediante un proceso de investigación estructurada
Inquiry can mean: La exploración puede significar:
  • asking questions
  • wondering about things
  • forming hypotheses or explanations
  • researching, collecting information
  • experimenting, testing hypotheses or explanations
  • applying hypotheses or explanations from one area of experience to another
  • observing, predicting
  • hacer preguntas

We believe that learning occurs when the student passes through the above stages to the point where s/he reflects on the experiences s/he has had and on the information s/he has gained through a process of discovery. Through the guidance of the teacher, the learner acquires and moves beyond the "core" body of knowledge required to become an "educated person". Creemos el proceso de aprendizaje ocurre cuando el estudiante pasa a través de etapas mencionadas mas arriba al punto donde se refleja en las experiencias que han tenido y en la información han adquirido con el proceso del descubrimiento. Con la dirección del profesor, el principiante adquiere y se mueve más allá del cuerpo de la "centro" del conocimiento requerido llegar a ser "una paresota educada".
IST believes that this style of learning is collaborative, social and communicative, and provides an ideal vehicle for the construction of knowledge and the acquisition of linguistic competence. IST cree que este estilo de aprendizaje es en colaboración con otros, social y comunicativo, y proporciona un transporte ideal para la construcción del conocimiento y la adquisición de la capacidades lingüísticas.
The basic vehicle in the IST approach is through carefully designed activity and questioning, initially generated by the teacher and later increasingly by the students themselves. These "starting point questions" are : El vehículo o transporte básico en el enfoque de IST es una actividad cuidadosamente diseñado y preguntar, generado inicialmente por el profesor y posteriormente cada vez más por los estudiantes mismos. Éstos " preguntas del punto de partida" son:
  • What is it like?
  • How does it work?
  • Why is it like it is?
  • How is it changing?
  • How is it connected to other things?
  • What are the perspectives on it and it it?
  • What is our responsibility for and towards it?
  • How do we know about it?

  • ¿Cómo está cambiando?

The school year begins with a two-week Diagnostic Unit and is then followed by six Teaching Units. During the Diagnostic Unit, the teacher assesses the knowledge, experiences and interests of the class and s/he uses this information to plan the Teaching Units. The Teaching Units vary from class to class, teacher to teacher and year to year however all fit within the following six themes : El año escolar comienza con una unidad de diagnóstico de dos semanas y después es seguido por seis unidades de enseñanza. Durante la unidad de diagnóstico, el profesor determina el conocimiento, experiencias y los intereses de la clase y el utilizara esta información para planear las unidades de enseñanza. Las unidades de enseñanza varían de clase en clase, de profesor a profesor y de año a año sin embargo todo se situara dentro de los seis siguientes temas:
  • Who we are
  • Where we are in place and time
  • How we express ourselves
  • How the world works
  • How we organize ourselves
  • Sharing the planet
  • ¿Quiénes somos?
  • ¿Dónde estamos en tiempo y espacio?

  • ¿Cómo trabaja el mundo?

El plan de estudios se divide en:

  • el plan de estudios especializado
The Core Curriculum of Language, Humanities, Mathematics and Science is taught through the two target languages : Spanish and English. Pre-Kindergarten classes are taught entirely in Spanish so that students entering Elementary school are orally equally proficient in both languages. Students also learn the basic skills of reading and writing in Spanish as these skills are directly transferable into English. El plan de estudios base de la lengua, de humanidades, de matemáticas y de ciencia se enseña con las dos lenguas: español e inglés. Las clases del Jardín de infantes se enseñan enteramente en español de modo que los estudiantes que entran en la escuela primaria sean igualmente fluidos en ambos idiomas. Los estudiantes también aprenden habilidades básicas de lectura y de escritura en español pues estas habilidades son directamente trasferibles en inglés.
The Specialist Curriculum of Art, Music, Drama, Information and Computer Technology (ICT) and Physical Education is taught through the language of the teacher. El plan de estudios del especializado de arte, música, drama, información y la informática (ICT) y educación física se enseña con la lengua del profesor.

  • Topics
  • Skills

The list of "Topics" corresponds to a traditional curriculum form and what students still study today in a traditional school, and indeed may appear to most parents to be what they studied when they were at school. "Topics" suggests Knowledge, Understanding, Creativity, Originality, Insight and Critical Response. La lista de "temas" corresponde a una forma tradicional de plan de estudios y qué estudiantes todavía estudian hoy en una escuela tradicional, y puede parecer de hecho a lo que la mayoría de los padres estudiaron cuando ellos estaban en la escuela. los "temas" sugieren conocimiento, comprensión, creatividad, originalidad, visión desde adentro y la respuesta crítica.
Unfortunately, a topic-based curriculum does not provide an indication as to exactly what a student learns, to what depth s/he studies it or whether s/he in fact learns anything. For this reason, the focus of the IST Curriculum is defined as a list of "Skills", what a student is expected to be able to do. "Skills" suggests the Demonstration or Application of Contents, Learning and Study Skills, Interpersonal Skills, and Subject-Specific Skills. The IST Skills are essentially a set of expected outcomes or standards, and they define what we expect our students to be able to perform or demonstrate with the Topics that have been studying. Desafortunadamente, un plan de estudios con enfoque meramente temático no proporciona un indicador de cuanto a exactamente un estudiante aprende, que tan profundamente estudia o si de hecho aprende algo. Por esta razón, el foco del plan de estudios de IST se define como lista de "habilidades", se espera que un qué estudiante pueda realizar demostraciones o el uso de las "habilidades " aprendidas, del contenido, de habilidades de aprender y de estudiar, de habilidades interpersonales, y de habilidades en temas específicos. Las “habilidades” de IST son esencialmente un sistema de resultados previstos o estándares, y definen lo que esperamos que nuestros estudiantes puedan realizar o demostrar con los temas que han estado estudiando.
Both the Spanish and later English programs follow the same Curriculum, however the associated language teaching points will vary, as will the depth or order of Topics. However, the Skills are the same. Ambos programas, el español y posteriormente el inglés siguen el mismo plan de estudios, no obstante los puntos asociados con las lenguas variarán, como la profundidad de los temas. Sin embargo, las habilidades son las mismas.
